The Relish Club, like so many other innovations,
light bulb moments, coming together of great minds started out going in one direction but ended up going in the right direction.
Bev has always had the knack of taking everyday household items and giving them new life and prolonging the usefulness. Hence, a slightly tired pillow case ends up as a handy bag; worn down candle stubs and bits of soap become new brighter candles and cleaner multi fragrance soaps. Thus the idea of utilising what we've got and doing something different with it was always present: then came the Year of the Runner Bean!
We had a glut of runner beans; and Bev got to work doing things to runner beans that defied belief …. that belief became our first chutney.
Our adventure is that you find our range of chutneys and relishes refreshingly new and comfortably familiar. Yorkshire practicality and Border wit, flair and good looks, some of the ingredients that might be in our jars! Absorbing influences and making them better particularly fitting as we are based in the lands of Tegeingl an area steeped in history and different tastes. Our location is important to us in another regard in that we have the best of a semi rural setting combined with access to sea ports and spices. When we say we only use locally grown produce whenever we can, that means fruit and veg from our own allotment and established local suppliers. We know that sounds like every other small scale producer but we do believe in using local, we even put it in our Mission Statement. We also put “We are still Hobbits and never lose sight of that. . . “ but we will gloss over that.
Oh, and why a club?... because we want you to join us and feel you own some of the adventure.
